09/04/2011 ESPN Lightning Strike Report False Shawn Falkenstein Morgantown WV State Police Capt. James Merrill West Virginia University and West Virginia state police officials refuted reports by ESPN that a fan was struck by lighting at Milan Puskar Stadium Sunday evening. ESPN first reported the injury during the third delay of the game between WVU and Marshall, claiming they had confirmed the account of a fan in section 202 being struck by lightning. The sports network repeatedly showed video of what appeared to be lightning hitting the top of the stadium when fans were being evacuated for the first weather delay. However, West Virginia state police captain James Merrill says after inspecting the stadium it appears that the lightning hit just outside the stadium and that no fans were affected by the strike. WVU officials and MECCA 911 released statements denying the ESPN report, saying that no one was treated for any injuries and that the report was false

I was touching a Dell mini (using the mouse) that was on only an Ethernet cord to my router but was sitting on my wireless printer that was still plugged in but not turned on. But lightning struck and an instant crack but somewhere in that instant, I felt a surge go through my hands, up my arms and wrap around my chest and back - I had to catch my breath, find a place to sit down, and then my arms felt all tingly like they were just waking up and everything hurt. I did not get thrown and I think I am okay - this happened yesterday afternoon. What happened? Should I be worried? I'm already terrified of the next storm - we had one on 8-10 that ruined some of our electronics and we witnessed sparks coming from outlets and switches. I found your website and was hoping I could get some clearer answers - it was very frightening. I'm glad I'm still here to take care of my children. Any light you could shed on this would most certainly make me feel better. Thank you for your time, Heather Karshagen, Burlington, VT

WEST CHESTER, Ohio - A local man who witnessed a deadly lightning strike over the weekend says his mind is reeling from what happened. Marquez Fisher says he feels like he's in a daze. He was with Donnell Russell of Evendale, the man he considers his father-in-law, when Russell was struck by lightning and killed. "I can't get it out of my head for nothing. Can't get it out of my head at all," Fisher said. Fisher says the men were fishing at a retention pond near Allen and Muhlhauser roads in West Chester when they decided to wait out the storm. Fisher says he was in his tent when Russell yelled to him that they'd better start packing things up. When Fisher reached to unzip his tent to start gathering their supplies he says he felt a shock. He says he heard it and felt it at the same time. "I felt it in my arms. I knew we got hit. I didn't know he got hit," Fisher said. "I knew some lightning came too close. I unzipped my tent and looked out to see where he was at and I didn't see him." Fisher says he found Russell on the ground. He wasn't responding. Paramedics were called. They could not revive Russell. Russell's girlfriend of 11 years says it doesn't seem real. She says he worked as a furniture mover and helped her raise her six children. She says he always treated her two grandchildren as if they were his own. "He was always positive. He would give you his last dollar. He'd do without, just so you would have," said Carisa Cardish. She says they were going to get married in December. "I guess everyone else would say the same thing, why mine? We know God took him for a reason," Cardish said. Police say when you see lightning you need to get away from water and you need to take cover. An autopsy will be performed Tuesday. Friends and relatives are working on plans for a fundraiser to help cover the cost of the funeral. Coach, Players React to Lightning Strike at Youth Football Game By Elvia Malagon THE LEDGER Published: Monday, August 29, 2011 at 11:40 p.m. Last Modified: Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at 5:26 a.m. LAKELAND | Youth football coach Donte Smith said he isn't sure whether he will ever react to black clouds the same. Smith, an assistant coach for the varsity team of the Polk County Titans, was one of three people hospitalized after lightning struck during a football game Saturday. The Titans were playing the Lakeland Hurricanes at Tenoroc High School in a much-anticipated Sunshine Police Athletic League match, but within minutes, the game turned into chaos. Smith estimated about 500 people were at the game, including the players. The pee-wee teams were on the field when it started to rain, said Jonathan Davis, the Hurricanes coach. They continued playing until they heard thunder, he said. Then, the field was cleared and people were soon scrambling to seek shelter. "It was just a nightmare," Shanika Moody, the secretary of the Polk County Titans organization. Moody said many people sought shelter under tents in the stands when it started to rain. But the tents proved to be unsafe when lightning started to strike near the area. "It happened so quick," she said. "We were holding the tent, and next thing you know, lightning was everywhere." Smith and his 9-year-old son were both holding onto a tent they shared with a couple of other people when the lightning struck. He said he saw a big white flash and felt a shock. The next thing he remembers is being taken to the hospital. His son also was taken to the hospital and suffered burns on his hands. Emergency workers received a call from the game at 1:44 p.m., said Brad Ruhmann with Polk County Fire Rescue. None of the three taken to Lakeland Regional Medical Center had life-threatening injuries and, by Monday, all had been released from the hospital. Jamey Henderson, president of Sunshine PAL, said the league is looking into reviewing its policies. "This is one of those things that came out of no where," he said. Some youth leagues have devices that give readings of how close lightning strikes are when they occur. Sunshine PAL doesn't require coaches to have those, Henderson said. Some of the children in the league have expressed fear about getting back on the field, said Davis, the Hurricanes coach. The children aren't the only ones still shaken up by Saturday's events. "If it gets dark, I'm kind of scared," Smith said. "I have a whole new perspective on playing in the rain." [ Reporter Elvia Malagon can be reached at elvia.malagon@theledger.com or 863-802-7550. Lightning raid on park cops By NICK SHARPE, Chief Reporter Published: Today Add a comment TWO cops were hit by lightning at a park while taking part in a training exercise to help them spy on drug dealers and gangsters. The undercover officers were zapped by the bolt as they hid under a tree to perfect their covert investigating techniques. The pair a 32-year-old man and 38-year-old woman were rushed to hospital after the violent electrical storm struck in woods near James Hamilton Heritage Park in East Kilbride, Lanarkshire. Last night an insider said the dedicated pair were hurt as they carried out the dummy op. They said: "This pair were trying their best to stick to their mission which unfortunately for them involved standing under a tree. "The course they were on teaches them to watch for long periods of time, and they would have been pretty well settled in when the storms started. "The skills that they learn would be used to keep an eye on drug dealers or organised criminals so they need to be effective at staying out of sight. "They must have got a horrific shock when the lightning struck the power of it would have been incredible. "Apparently the charge shorted through their radios and threw both of them to the ground. It's no wonder they needed to go to hospital." Worried colleagues immediately dashed to the pair's aid after the terrifying incident last month. The injured officers were taken to East Kilbride's Hairmyres Hospital and kept in overnight for observation before being released the following day. The pair have still not returned to duty 11 days after their ordeal on August 26. The incident happened as a series of storms battered western Scotland. Drama ... park where cops were hit A Met Office forecaster said: "That day was particularly stormy all the ingredients for some real summer thunder and lightning were there. "A combination of reasonably warm temperatures and a light wind meant that the large clouds were in place to drop a lot of rain at one time and with that often comes lightning." Experts say the safest thing to do in a lightning storm is to squat in the open and let as little of your body touch the ground as possible. Official Government advice states: "Avoid water and find a low-lying open place that is a safe distance from trees, poles or metal objects." Last night a Strathclyde Police spokeswoman confirmed two employees whose ranks have not been revealed were hurt. She said: "Two police officers have been injured after being struck by lightning. Both were on a training exercise at the time." nicksharpe@the-sun.co.uk Read more: http://www.struckbylightning.org/news/sbl20110509090522_Lightning-raid-on-park-cops.html#ixzz1X88ApOhJ

A man survived getting struck by lightning at a track meet at the Adams County Fairgrounds. Forty-year-old Chip Wiman took cover underneath a tree a few feet from a shelter where about 200 people were taking cover from a storm Friday evening. Adams County Fire spokesman Terrance O'Neill says lightning struck the tree and used Wiman as a conductor as it traveled up through the ground. The Denver Post (http://bit.ly/oRedSx ) reports Wiman suffered second- and third-degree burns. He told the paper the bolt left a trail of singed hair on his leg where the lightning traveled through his body and an exit wound on a part of his body that had been in contact with the tree. Man who survives indirect lightning strike at Adams County track meet thought his legs were blown off By Caitlin Gibbons The Denver Post POSTED: 09/02/2011 08:34:21 PM MDT UPDATED: 09/03/2011 01:12:25 PM MDT Chip Wiman was standing under a tree during a weather delay around 6 p.m. Friday for his daughter's track meet when lightning hit. (Kevin Vaughan, The Denver Post) A 40-year-old man indirectly struck by lightning this evening at the Adams County Fairgrounds is recovering in the hospital from second- and third-degree burns. Chip Wiman was standing under a tree during a weather delay around 6 p.m. for his daughter's track meet when lightning hit. "I was leaning against a tree and 'Kaboom!' I didn't lose consciousness, that I know of," Wiman said. "I remember laying there thinking I had my legs blown off." The lightning traveled through the tree and up through the ground, using Wiman as a conductor, said Sgt. Terrance O'Neill, spokesman for Adams County Fire. Wiman, his daughter and her teammates were standing under a shelter in the park waiting for the storm to pass. Wiman said he is a little claustrophobic and decided to move less than five feet away to stand under the tree. "There were literally 200 people standing a foot away from me. It's a blessing no one else got hurt," he said. The meet was canceled after his injury, he said. He said he never thought he could be struck by lightning and, at the time, thought waiting out the storm was overly cautious. "I will always take lightning serious from now on," Wiman said. "It sounded like an A-bomb." Wiman said doctors at St. Joseph Hospital told him he was a lucky man. He will be kept overnight for tests and observation. He said you can see the trail of singed hair on his leg where the lightning traveled through his body. Wiman added: "There is a huge exit wound on my bottom where I was rubbing the tree. If it had been my chest or head, it would be a different story."

Singer suffers perforated eardrum and burns after lightning bolt hits studio Kisha Salmon was performing in a studio that was struck by lightning. By Rebekah Smith Published on Wednesday 21 September 2011 02:00 A SINGER from Northampton said she was amazed she is still alive after a studio she was performing in was struck by lightning in Grenada this summer. Kisha Salmon suffered a perforated ear drum and burnt ear after lightning blasted a hole in the wall of the corrugated iron building and melted equipment. Mrs Salmon, a singer-songwriter and music teacher, who lives in Little Billing, went to Grenada, in the Caribbean, for two weeks in August with her husband and two young sons, aged three months and 22 months, to meet her in-laws. While there, she was interviewed on the local radio and was playing her fourth song when the lightning struck. The DJ had gone to prepare food and Mrs Salmon was playing more songs to fill time. She said: A storm had started and the rain was beating down noisily on the corrugated iron roof. I was on my fourth song, thinking yikes I wish I had prepared some more songs, when there was a sudden boom. A massive explosion, like a bomb blast. Shrapnel was all around the room. I pulled the headphones off and threw down my guitar. My ears were ringing. I couldnt hear my husband speak. Something was burning my ear so I pulled it off and pushed away something burning from my neck. I rushed to the baby and covered his ears. The DJ came back, looking shocked and in disbelief. We had had a direct hit from lightning. A chunk had been blasted out of the building and the equipment melted. Mrs Salmon said: It was such a shock. We were so amazed we walked out alive. She said her sons were absolutely fine. We were worried they were going to have something wrong with their hearing. Its amazing. It was quite dramatic. Incredibly we were all unharmed apart from my burnt ear and neck and a perforated ear drum. She added: It was my first visit to the Caribbean. I had no idea lightning could be so violent. Despite the ordeal, Mrs Salmon said she would love to go back to Grenada and was delighted the minister for tourism wanted to use a song she had written promoting the country.

11 struck by lightning By STEVEN DANIEL and K. ASHRAF KAMMED stevend@thestar.com.my PETALING JAYA: Six foreigners were killed and five more injured when lightning struck them in two separate incidents. In the first incident, three Indonesians died and and two were injured at about 2.45pm while working at a farm during a heavy storm in Sungai Choh near Kuala Kubu Baru. The dead were Adik Rohmat, 28, Roni Dwi Jatmiko, 28, and Sugiran, 29, while the identities of the injured men, aged 25 and 40 years respectively, had yet to be ascertained. Hulu Selangor OCPD Supt Norel Azmi Affandi Yahya said the injured workers were taken to a nearby health clinic for treatment for minor burns and lacerations. In another incident in Jalan Reaktor, Persiaran Kerjaya in Glenmarie, three Indonesian contract workers died while three of their colleagues were injured when lightning struck them at about 2.30pm. Vice says his body is sore from the strike, but mostly he is stunned he is still alive. He calls his survival a miracle. "The lightning bolt goes 'Shwooop!,'" said Vice. It happened in the blink of an eye. "I see a big, blue-white light flash," Vice said. "Next thing I know Im on the floor." "He was just white as a ghost, I said 'Shawn, did you get shocked?' said Vices mother. His called 911. Paramedics rushed him to hospital. "She screamed, she's freaking out," Vice said, pointing to his mother and girlfriend. But he kept his cool. He remained conscious, but couldn't move his body. Vice thinks about 120-240 volts entered through some white dots on his shoulder and left his body through the white dot on his wrist. He says those dots were not on his arm before the accident. Doctors diagnosed him with electrical shock. So why was Vice's body a target? I knew it was going to happen sooner or later because I have titanium steel in my leg," Vice said. A knee injury required screws and a metal plate in his left leg. But another electrical culprit may have also attracted the bolt of lightning. I press the Xbox button...and then poof!" That poof was lightning entering his body, taking out 3 DVRs, the phone, internet and the Xbox. But it was a close call.nVice said if he was a few feet closer to the Xbox when the lightning shot through the window, he could be dead. He's says all he can do is count his blessings. "Ive done it all: Ive hit a home run, bowled a 300, scored a touchdown, been struck by lightning," Vice said. The National Weather Service said there's a 1 in 10,000 chance you'd be struck by lightning in your lifetime. A one in a million chance you'd be struck in a given year. Vice was in the hospital for a few hours last night and had a check-up this evening; he is healthy right now, but says he is sore and tired. He describes the feeling of being struck like a punch from Mike Tyson, saying it just knocked him out.

Svensson, 12, was struck by lightning twice while taking a shower in her home in Gothenburg, Sweden, The Local reports. Following a family dinner, Svensson took a shower in the basement. Her parents say they heard their daughter scream after two bursts of thunder erupted outside. According to the publication, Svensson screamed again when her mother, Cecilia, entered the bathroom and found her clutching the metal shower hose. According to UPI, the two lightning strikes surged through the home's plumbing: "Cecilia Svensson called an expert on the radio who explained what had happened -- lightning struck the house and traveled through the pipes to the shower hose the child was using." Alice isn't the only unlucky one. A few days ago, eight people were injured by lightning at SeaWorld's Discovery Cove water park in Orlando. Like Alice, however, none of their injuries were life-threatening.

He was not transported to a hospital, and his parents were picking him up, Collier County EMS Deputy Chief Dan Bowman said. The lightning strike came as rain poured down across the region Friday night. The National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning for northwest D.C. and its western suburbs. NBC Washington reported that several people, including two nuns, were trapped by rushing water in Fairfax County before police rescued them. About 20,000 Dominion Virginia customers lost power in the storm, and about 4,300 Pepco customers lost power most of them in Prince George's County. A Pepco spokesman said many trees and wires were downed by the storm. A Belgrade jogger who was struck by lightning said her last thought as she watched the weather get worse was "two more raindrops and I'm turning around." But 27-year-old Elizabeth Kovacs didn't get the chance just 15 minutes into her run on Monday. "I woke up in a pile of blood with paramedics all around me," she told the Bozeman Daily Chronicle (http://bit.ly/ocndLy), noting she remembered people passing around her shoe, which now had a 3-inch gash that may have been the lightning bolt's exit path. "Overall she was in remarkably good shape," said Dr. Robert Schoene, a cardio pulmonologist. "She had a streak of luck that day." Kovacs suffered a second second-degree burn on her chest and first-degree burns on her right arm, leg and ears. The strike also blew out her eardrums, but doctors say that should correct itself in a few weeks. She also ended up with a concussion, seven broken teeth and abrasions, which Schoene said likely happened when Kovacs fell to the ground. "She got knocked down and probably knocked out," Schoene said. "What's different about lightning is it usually spreads around the surface of the body rather than going through it." "In the grand scheme of things, I'm so glad to be here," Kovacs told the newspaper on Wednesday at a restaurant. "I wish I could be back on the road tomorrow, but I know that's not possible." She has to wait for the OK from doctors. "I plan on coming back from this," she said. "I'm not going to quit because this happened. I'm not done. The doctors are saying I'm a miracle, and I kind of feel that way." She said she had misgivings about running that morning because of the weather, but went anyway. "I thought, 'Man, I probably shouldn't do this.' But I'm an avid runner, and I'm also a creature of habit," she said. "The lesson that I really want everyone to take from this is trust your gut - your gut always knows better than your head." Her fiancé, Philip Samuelson, said he woke up that morning due to the lightning and thunder. "There's no way she's out running in this," he thought, falling back asleep, ignoring the phone. But the fire department called back to tell Samuelson what had happened. "My cereal was still sitting there - I ran out the door," he said. "Don't look so worried," Kovacs told Samuelson about an hour after the lightning strike. The two have been engaged for two years and plan to be married in the next two, but said medical expenses could delay that. Meanwhile Kovacs is returning to work in Belgrade as a paraprofessional in Belgrade schools, where this year she starts as the schools' psychologist.

Storm gives cop, K-9 quite a jolt By James Hinton Saturday, August 20, 2011 - Updated 5 days ago E-mail Print (9) Comments Text size Share As violent thunderstorms with hail and 40 mph gusts swept across the Bay State yesterday, a state police trooper and his dog were stunned when a lightning bolt struck the K-9 police truck in which they were traveling at about 3:30 p.m. while patrolling the air operations area along Perimeter Road at Logan International Airport. Trooper Randy Enos and his dog, Chipp, were driving in a Ford F-150 pickup truck at the time of the lightning strike. Enos was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital, where tests indicated he was fine, but he remained for evaluation, according to state police. After being struck, the trooper was conscious and able to use his portable radio to report the strike. Chipp will be evaluated by a veterinarian but also appears to be doing fine. The trucks electronics and electrical systems, however, were severely damaged, state police said. An unstable air mass combined with warm weather created thunderstorms across the state, said National Weather Meteorologist Charlie Foley. Hail as large as one inch in diameter was reported in the Back Bay, with many other metropolitan areas seeing hail stones of a quarter- to a half-inch, Foley said. About 4,000 Nstar customers, mostly around Walpole, lost power, but a spokesman said he expected to have those repaired last night. A National Weather Service hazardous weather outlook remained in effect for central and northern Massachusetts last night. Early morning fog today will combine with a chance of showers or thunderstorms early before becoming mainly sunny day with highs near 89 degrees.

Posted at: 08/21/2011 11:49 PM Updated at: 08/22/2011 12:53 PM By: Dan Levy Print Story Email to a Friend Thunderstorms strike region, lightning strikes man DUANESBURG - In rural Schenectady County Sunday afternoon, a local man, unable to escape a fast moving thunderstorm, was struck by lightning while enjoying a day of ATV riding. When the powerful storm raced through the region around mid day, hundreds of enthusiasts were either riding ATVs or dirt bikes at the Indian Lookout Country Club in Duanesburg. Most of those people made it to cover, one man did not. The ominous storm clouds moved in from the west, circled around, and then came back for more. Just ahead of the weather front, in a spacious pasture, ATVs were spinning their wheels, kicking up mud, when the staff of the club began hollering for everyone to take cover. One man, around age 30, didn't react in time and that's when lightning struck. "He was totally out," Frank Potter, owner of Indian Lookout, said. "He was laying on the ground and some people that were standing near him, heard the lightning, saw the flash, and weren't really sure where it came from. They turned around and were down." The man, whose identity was being withheld, was rushed to Ellis Hospital. His condition was unknown late Sunday night. "The lesson is when you see the storm coming, don't wait for the lightning," Potter suggests, "Don't wait for the storm-- move!" By the time the storm reached Selkirk, in Albany County, Tom Baker was racing to get his lawn mowed on Beaver Dam Road. He didn't quite make it, but he may have cheated serious injury if not something worse. "All of a sudden the wind came up," Baker recalled, "I usually go on the east side of the house with the lawn mower but since it was raining so hard, I went on the west side of the house. When the wind came through, it had to be at least 40 or 50 miles per hour. I was lucky." He was lucky because a huge tree that barely missed his roof, also barely missed him. Simultaneously a utility pole almost in front of his house, toppled onto electrical wires, knocking out power to residents of Beaver Dam Road. "It made a loud noise," he said. "It scared my wife in the house. She thought it hit the house but it just glanced the house." Baker was fortunate, like many of his neighbors, because he had a generator all set to go. National Grid was estimating full restoration in the Capital Region by 2 a.m

Errol Forbes, a carpenter and an elder at the Zion Hill Seventh-day Adventist Church, was hit by a bolt of lightning as he walked from his workshop to his house between two clothes lines, made of copper wire. FORBES... was building a podium for his church when the lightning struck (Photo: Everard Owen) 1/1 "I called him for his breakfast and was (waiting) at the door. He started to come and I saw a bright lightning struck and then he fell to the ground," explained Neilton Fletcher, Forbes' grandson. He said there was a loud sound. "When the lightning struck, the whole place lit up; then he fell on the ground and I rushed out to help him and he was unconscious," added Fletcher. "He was lying on the ground in the rain. I took him up... and I felt his pulse and it was low. I tried mouth to mouth (CPR) and I tried and tried but nothing. About six persons came and took him to the hospital," he said. At the time of his demise, Forbes was constructing a podium to be used by his church at a crusade, which begins this evening. In the meantime, Forbes' neighbour, Nordia Mitchell, was taken to hospital after complaining of pains in the chest. Mitchell was standing in her yard under an umbrella when the lightning struck. Already in 2011- it's claimed 19 lives, and injured dozens more. A couple out walking in Arlington Friday night when the storm hit had no place to go. Anna Lantelme says it was the loudest thunder she'd ever heard. "It sounded like gunshots, or fireworks. It was so scary,"Lantelme says. The man and woman struck by lightning Friday night on North Highland Street at Franklin were walking under a huge tree beside a metal fence with an umbrella. " The lightning was non-stop,"Josh Parent says. "The thunder was the loudest I've ever heard." When lightning hit the couple, it shattered the lenses in one of their glasses and knocked their shoes off. "It shook our house," Liza Kravinsky says. "And within minutes, I heard the fire engines coming." The victims are still hospitalized, in serious condition. With more storms expected Sunday, the National Weather Service says it's important to know what to do to if bad weather is nearby. First, you should get to a safe place is you see a thunderstorm developing. Fully enclosed buildings are best, but a hard-topped metal vehicle will work too. Don't use a landline phone with a cord, or other electrical equipment. And remember that water pipes conduct electricity, so don't take a bath or shower during a storm. Warnings these Arlington residents say they'll take to heart during the next storm. "We are definitely going to stay inside, and I will unplug my computer just in case," Kravinsky says. A final reminder, someone struck by lightning needs immediate help. Don't be afraid to touch them. Their bodies aren't electrically charged. Someone performed CPR on the woman hit by lightning in Arlington and they were able to revive her. Man recounts surviving lightning strike Posted: 08/17/11 at 6:10 pm EDT Last Updated: 08/17/11 at 6:25 pm EDT 15 Share 1/2 Related Article Man struck by lightning released from hospital FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (WSVN) -- The victim of a sudden strike from the sky is speaking out for the first time after his narrow brush with death. Tuesday afternoon, Brian Owens, 22, was sitting in a vehicle outside his job when the lightning hit, putting him in the hospital. Wednesday, while recovering at home, the young helicopter mechanic talked about the incident. Owens had served a year in the Army, in Iraq. He said he never had a moment there when he felt as if he had his leg blown off. On Tuesday, while inside a sport utility vehicle parked on the south side of Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport, a felt a sensation similar to that. "I was out of it for like 20 minutes," he said. "I couldn't move, I couldn't say anything." He pointed to his waist and said, "From here, all the way to the tip of my toes it was numb, and it was excruciating." Just a day earlier, in Deerfield Beach, a crane operator suffered burn marks for his pain after lightning hit nearby equipment. That same day, a landscape worker in Davie was knocked senseless when lightning struck a nearby fence. Owens' father, the head of the Broward Sheriff's Office aviation unit, examined the tailgate of the SUV where his son was sitting when the lightning hit. He and his co-worker, Luke Keip, were sitting in the SUV waiting for the rain to stop. "I had my left foot down in a puddle of water," said Owens, "and I had my gun in my back left pocket, and we heard a lightning strike." "It was real loud," said Keip. "It shook my truck [it sounded] just like a loud gun, like a high-powered rifle." "The next thing I know, the water just splashed up," Owens said, "and I started screaming. I thought the electricity went through the car, then went through my gun ... I thought the gun went off ... that's how much it hurt. It was the worst pain I ever felt in my life." Lightning strikes are not uncommon in Florida. That day, in Orlando, three tourists and five workers at Sea World's Discovery Cove were treated for shock. On average no fewer than 55 people die of lightning strikes every year. Hundreds more are permanently maimed or disabled Read more: http://www.wsvn.com/news/articles/local/21005131591875/#ixzz1WwRzFQeP
